Here She Comes

Ship Leaving Dock

I am standing on the sea shore
A ship sails in the morning breeze and starts for the ocean
She is the object of beauty and I stand watching her
Till at last she fades on the horizon and someone at my side says:
"She is gone."

Gone! Where?
Gone from my sight - that is all.
She is just as large in the masts, hull and spars as she was when I saw her
And just as able to bear her load of living freight to its destination
The diminished size and total loss of sight is in me
Not in her.

And just at the moment when someone at my side says,
"She is gone,"
There are others who are watching her coming, and other voices take up a glad shout:
"There she comes."
And that is dying.

I'm not sure who wrote this lovely quote - please let me know if you do.

This blog is written to explore what happens after we die, because let's face it, it's one of the two things we're certain of. The other is taxes and I'd rather not go there.

I was raised Catholic - went to Catholic school until I was twenty-one - and taught in a Catholic school for twelve years. Catholic's believe in heaven and hell - and also a murky place between - called Purgatory.

Purgatory is a place to go when you're not ready to meet God and you have to repent for your sins. Maria Simms wrote an excellent book in this subject  - really riveting -
